Increase the Value of Your Home with These Home Improvements

If you’re a home owner, you probably have a long list of home improvements that you want to do. Maybe, add a deck. Paint the garage. Change the flooring. But if you want to improve the value of your home, these are the three things you must prioritize. No they’re not sexy. You won’t have the urge to invite over friends for barbecue to show-off what you’ve accomplished. But these improvements will save you maintenance money and at the same time, increase the value of your home.

Replace Your Lights

LED has arrived. We use bulb to generate light, not heat. However, 90% of the energy given off by incandescent bulbs is heat. It’s like throwing away money. Using LED bulbs can save up to 80% energy. LED is considered the most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting technology. Now LED bulbs may be more expensive than incandescent bulbs but they last 25 times longer. And prices are going down quickly as the technology further develops. If you do the math, it’s really a no-brainer.

Clean Your Furnace, Now!

Heating requires a lot of energy and is a significant expense particularly in the cold season. You want your house to have an efficient heating system and the easiest way to do this is to clean the furnace. Furnaces need to be cleaned at least once a year yet few people actually do it. Dirt gathers in the furnace and this drastically reduces efficiency. When cleaning furnaces, all three parts – the filter system, blower, and motor – must all be cleaned.

Remove that Ugly Tree Stump

If there’s a tree stump in your yard, remove it. Your property will look better without it and you won’t have to do some extra work when mowing your lawn.

Insulate Doors and Windows

We want to keep temperatures at a comfortable level when we’re indoors. That’s why we have heaters and air-conditioners. We want to stay cool when it’s hot outside and we want to keep warm during winter. Sealing doors and windows makes it easier to maintain a stable level of temperature indoors. Most home improvement projects will cost some money but the returns are worth it. You will increase the value of your home too if you maintain it carefully.
